What Shall I Do With Jesus?
This is a question that we all must answer. In actuality, we continue to
answer it every moment of our lives.
Pilate the governor was the one to originally ask the question.
When the Jewish leaders brought Jesus before him, he sought to effect
the Lord’s release by reminding them of the yearly tradition of
releasing one of the prisoners. Placing Jesus and Barabbas (a murderous
traitor) before them, Pilate urged them to make their choice. When they
chose Barabbas, Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus
who is called Christ?” (Matt. 27:22).
We know all too well what Pilate did with Christ. Instead of
declaring Jesus innocent and releasing Him (for, after all, he had no
evidence upon which to convict), he “washed his hands” of the whole
matter and cowardly acquiesced to the Jews’ demands, delivering up Jesus
to be crucified.
What will YOU do with Jesus? Like it or not, you are
answering that question even as you read this short article. Are you
obeying Him? Are you humbly submitting to His will? Are you living for
this One who died for you? Or, rather, are you living for self? Are you
presently telling yourself that you’ll obey Him at a more convenient
time? Are you “washing your hands” of him, not wishing to act
responsibly toward Him who loves you so much?
One day there will be a judgment, and you will be there -- and
Jesus will (in a sense) be asking, “What shall I do with you?”
What the Judge of all the earth does with you will be determined by what
YOU did with Him while living in this life. If you have not ‘lived for
Jesus’ (in the fullest sense of the term) while on earth, it will be too
late at the judgment day to answer the question with words such as, “I
accept Him -- He’s my Lord -- He’s my King!”
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what
he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Cor. 5:10).
What shall we do with Jesus? What are we doing with
Jesus? How can we continue to brush aside the one who gave Himself for
us?
