Praise Jesus!
As Jesus hung on the cross, some passed by, wagging their heads and
saying, “Save yourself, and come down from the cross!” Also, the Jewish
leaders sarcastically derided him and said among themselves, “He saved
others; Himself he cannot save” (Mark 15:29-31). Of course we know that
Jesus could have “saved” Himself. He could have instantly
come down from that cross and destroyed those blasphemers. But such
would have been completely foreign to his mission to “seek and save that
which was lost.” No, the irony of it all is that if Jesus had “saved
Himself,” all others (past, present, and future) would have been doomed
to eternal destruction. He lovingly stayed on that cross and suffered
and died that those who wagged their heads at and mocked Him might be
saved. And, dear friend, He stayed on that cross and died that you
might also be saved. Let us praise Jesus! Truly, “worthy is the Lamb who
was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor
and glory and blessing!” (Revelation 5:12).
