Do
We Want Jesus The Man?
A great multitude of people are celebrating the birth of Jesus this time
of year, with the imaginations of men being drawn toward scenes of
mangers, prostrate wise men, and of course, a baby Jesus. To be sure,
the Bible itself speaks of these things (Matthew 2; Luke 2) -- Yet the
Scriptures nowhere indicate that the Lord ever intended for men to
yearly celebrate a memorial of their own devising in honor of Jesus’
birth.
We look at these religious celebrants today who put so much emphasis on
the baby Jesus, and wonder if many of them have done so to the point of
forgetting (or willfully ignoring) the fact that the Son of God, the
baby, grew up to be the Son of God, the man.
Could it be that too many are glad to worship a little baby that utters
no words and makes no demands, but who balk when the child-turned-man
issues commands such as, “You shall love the Lord your God with all
your heart,” “Repent or perish,” and “Love your enemies”?
Dare men feign love for the child while recoiling when that same One in
maturity tells them, “If you love me, keep My commandments”?
(John 14:15)
Do we truly want to honor Jesus? Let us love Him for His gracious gift
of Himself on the cross... let us honor Him by obeying His every
command... let us worship Him as He directs in His will and testament.
